The government has its own press division that publishes several newspapers, the most important being Khalq Sozi and its sister publications, Narodnoye Slovo and Pravda Vostoka. During the Soviet times, Pravda Vostoka used to be the organ of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Uzbekistan.
