Ownership and governance

The station was a partnership between the interior ministry of Cambodia and Fujian Zhongya Culture and Media.

Source of funding and budget

Nice TV was launched with funding from the Cambodian government. It was mostly financed through government funding, but also received money from Fujian Zhongya Culture and Media, a Chinese government-controlled company whose mission was to promote China’s interests in the region.

Editorial independence

Although Nice TV’s journalists claimed that they were free to report on anything, the broadcaster was undoubtedly focused on promoting the image of the government and the role of the police in Cambodia. The broadcast license allocated to Nice TV stated that its mission was to “cover security matters and national police operations” and “praise government policy and law enforcement activities.”

No statues and no independent assessment or oversight mechanisms to validate the editorial independence of the Nice TV have been identified.
