The tabloid Kurir, owned by Igor Zezelj, is known to be part of a financing scheme through that the Serbian government has been using public funds to take over a number of media outlets in the past three-four years.
The government uses the state-owned Telekom Srbija to transfer money from the state budget to other companies that then buy media outlets. In 2020, it was unveiled that Telekom Srbija paid €38m to the company Wireless Media, owned by Zezelj who used the funds to buy Kurir in 2019. Zezelj also owns a media group called Adria that controls many other media outlets, including Espreso and Mondo.rs.
