Ownership and governance

Togo-Presse is printed by Editogo, a publishing house owned by the state and subordinated to the Ministry of Communication and Media. The publisher’s management is appointed by the government.

Source of funding and budget

Togo-Presse generates funding from sales of copies and advertising, but also receives a significant state subsidy, which accounts for more than 50% of its total budget, according to estimates from local experts.

Editorial independence

There are no provisions obliging Togo-Presse to favor the government, but indirectly, through funding and control of the newspaper’s management, the government has full control over the editorial coverage of the newspaper.

There is no statute and no oversight or assessment mechanism that would validate Togo-Presse’s editorial independence.
