Ownership and governance

Kazinform is owned by and subordinated to the Ministry of Culture and Information.

Source of funding and budget

According to local consulted by the Media and Journalism Research Center, Kazinform gets most of its funding from the government. In 2017, the agency received over KZT 715m (uS$ 1.6m) from the government.

Editorial independence

Kazinform strictly follows in its editorial coverage directions imposed by the Kazakh government.

There is no domestic statute and no independent assessment or oversight mechanism in place at Kazinform to validate the editorial independence of these outlets.
