State Media Matrix Typology: State-Controlled (SC)
The Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) is the official news agency of the North Korean government. Its primary objective is to disseminate the policies and perspectives of the North Korean government to both domestic and international audiences. The agency was established in 1946.
While technically accountable to the Korean Central Broadcasting Committee, KCNA’s activities are in fact fully controlled by the propaganda unit at the Workers’ Party of Korea.
