Dawan Media Group (DMG) was established in 1998 as Mandeeq Media Group. Today, DMG runs several print media outlets, including Dawan newspaper in Somali, The Horn Tribune in English, and Alqaran in Arabic.

Source of funding and budget
No financial information about Dawan Media Group (DMG) has been made public. Local journalists and foreign experts specializing in Somalia consulted for this project said that the group is in the majority funded by the government.
Editorial independence
DMG’s publications toe the government’s line, their editorial agenda being totally in favor of the government. There is no domestic statute and no independent mechanism to validate the editorial independence of DMG’s media outlets.
