The Notimex news agency was established in August 1968 during the Olympic Games hosted by Mexico that year. Since 2020, Notimex has faced significant challenges related to labor disputes and payment issues, resulting in frequent staff strikes and intermittent operations. Notimex’s news content is circulated by various national and local newspapers, as well as some broadcasters. In December 2023, the Senate approved the closure of Notimex, a move that was initiated and supported by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO).
