Radio Liban is run as a directorate within the Ministry of Information, in line with a media strategy approved by the government, according to local experts knowledgeable of this strategic document.

Source of funding and budget

According to local journalists and experts, Radio Liban is financed by a government subsidy. The station does not release information about its expenditures.

Radio Liban has been facing massive financial problems. The latest publicly floated budget figure is a mere LBP 65m (US$ 4,300) monthly.


Editorial independence

Radio Liban operates in line with an editorial strategy approved by the government and implemented by the Ministry of Information, which supervises the station’s activity. Hence, the government tightly controls its editorial coverage.

No domestic statute and no independent mechanism that would validate the editorial independence of Radio Liban have been identified.
