Source of funding and budget
According to local experts and journalists interviewed for this report in March 2023 and May 2024, government television stations are fully funded by the state. However, there is no official data available regarding the funds allocated to these state television broadcasters.
Editorial independence
Television stations in Tajikistan, particularly those owned by the government, have a clear mandate to represent and advocate for the Tajik government’s policies, as indicated by local experts and journalists interviewed for this report in March 2023 and May 2024. A targeted analysis of the content broadcast by these stations revealed a distinct pro-government bias, with most of the reports focusing on state officials, especially high-ranking ones such as the President.
No domestic statute or independent assessment or oversight mechanism that establishes and validates the editorial independence of Government Television has been identified.
