Vietnam Television (VTV) is a government-owned television broadcaster established in 1970. It is one of two television stations with nationwide coverage in Vietnam. VTV operates seven nationwide channels and two regional channels (VTV8 and VTV9).

Ownership and governance
VTV’s operations are overseen by a government decree (No. 02/2018). The broadcaster is operated as a government agency, with management personnel appointed by the government. The Prime Minister is responsible for appointing the General Director and Deputy General Directors of the station. In March 2021, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc appointed Le Ngoc Quang, a member of the Party Central Committee and Secretary of the Party Committee, as General Director of the national television station.

VTV is a government agency that receives its funding from the state budget. Information regarding the station’s budget is not publicly available.
Editorial independence
In accordance with the law, VTV’s objective is to disseminate information about and promote the implementation of guidelines, state policies, and legislation as set forth by the Communist Party. To date, no domestic statute and no oversight mechanism that would validate VTV’s independence have been identified.
