The Voice of Vietnam (VOV) is the Vietnamese national radio broadcaster with a history dating back to 1945. The channel’s online platform offers webcasting of all its radio channels and the television platform, VOVTV. Additionally, the station publishes Tieng Noi Viet Nam, a bimonthly newspaper with nationwide distribution.

Ownership and governance

VOV is subject to the provisions set forth in Government Decree No. 03/2018/ND-CP, which defines VOV as a government agency operating under the authority of the Ministry of Information and Communications. The station’s strategy must be approved by the government and the prime minister.

In June 2021, Deputy Prime Minister Pham Binh Minh announced the appointment of Do Tien Sy, a member of the Party Central Committee and National Assembly deputy, as President of VOV.

Source of funding and budget

VOV is a government agency that receives its funding from the government, according to experts and journalists who specialize in Vietnamese media.

Editorial independence

In accordance with the government decree that established VOV, the station’s mission is to disseminate the Communist Party’s guidelines and state legislation. To date, no domestic statute and no oversight mechanism that would validate the independence of VOV have been identified.
