Vietnam Digital Television (VTC) was established in 2004 and is a nationwide television station that airs a total of 18 channels. VTC’s portfolio primarily comprises specialized channels that cater to specific interests, including environmental, agricultural, and rural development topics, as well as news and sports.

Ownership and governance
Since 2015, VTC has been under the management of VOV. Prior to that, VTC was under the authority of the Ministry of Information and Communications. In 2015, the government approved Decision 752/QD-TTg, which permitted the transfer of all VTC assets, personnel, and equipment to Voice of Vietnam (VOV).
Source of funding and budget
In a series of interviews conducted in June 2024, experts and journalists specializing in Vietnamese media confirmed that VTC is fully funded from the government budget.
Editorial independence
VTC operates in accordance with a set of editorial requirements imposed by the government on VOV. These requirements are designed to ensure positive editorial coverage of the government’s activities. To date, no domestic statute and no oversight mechanism to validate the independence of VTC has been identified.
