Ownership and governance
Mening Yurtim (MY5) is operated by Ozod Yurt Tolqinlari LLC. The channel is jointly owned by the Government of Uzbekistan (61%) and media entrepreneur Firdavs Abdukhalikov (39%), who originally founded the station and continues to play a prominent role in its governance. In September 2020, the government of Uzbekistan established the Youth Media Holding under the Agency for Youth Affairs, which acquired 61% of MY5 from Abdukhalikov.
Source of funding and budget
MY5 is primarily financed through commercial advertising revenues. Nevertheless, its majority state ownership means it benefits from government backing, which provides stability and shields the channel from the financial pressures that privately owned competitors face.
Editorial independence
Although MY5 presents itself as a modern and semi-independent broadcaster with a strong entertainment profile, its editorial line is shaped by government influence, given the state’s majority stake. Programming largely steers clear of political content or criticism of the authorities, instead focusing on light entertainment, culture, and lifestyle. This makes MY5 attractive to younger audiences but also keeps it aligned with state expectations.
No domestic statute law or independent oversight mechanism has been identified to safeguard MY5’s editorial independence in the latest round of research for this report.
