VTC Digital Television

Established in 2004, Vietnam Digital Television VTC is a nationwide television station that airs a total of 18 channels. VTC runs mostly specialized channels that focus on issues and topics such as environment, agriculture and rural development, news and sports.

Ownership and governance

Since 2015, VTC has been run by the management of VOV. Before that, VTC belonged to the Ministry of Information and Communications. In 2015, the government approved the decision 752/QD-TTg that allowed the transfer of all VTC’s finances, staff and equipment to VOV.

Source of funding and budget

VTC is fully funded from the government budget, according to experts and journalists specialized in Vietnamese media.

Editorial independence

VTC operates in line with a set of editorial requirements imposed by the government on VOV that are aimed at ensuring positive editorial coverage of the government’s activities.

No domestic statute and no oversight mechanism to validate the independence of VTC has been identified.
