VTC Digital Television
Established in 2004, Vietnam Digital Television (VTC) has evolved into a prominent nationwide broadcaster with a multi-channel portfolio catering to diverse audiences. VTC operated a total of 18 television channels, many of which were dedicated to niche programming—including environmental affairs, agricultural development, rural livelihoods, news reporting, and sports.
In early 2025, VTC faced a significant operational shift when its television channels were dissolved and ceased broadcasting, following a government decision to consolidate state television operations. This move was part of a broader restructuring of Vietnam’s state media landscape aimed at centralizing resources under Vietnam Television (VTV) and enhancing efficiency across publicly funded broadcasters. The closure marked the end of VTC’s two-decade-long presence in the national broadcasting ecosystem.
While the decision was framed as a rationalization of resources, critics and observers within the media community noted the lack of public consultation and transparency around the process. Hundreds of employees were reportedly affected by the restructuring, with some being redeployed within VOV’s radio and online departments, while others faced redundancy.
