Liechtensteinische Rundfunk (LRF)

The Liechtenstein Broadcasting Corporation (Liechtensteinische Rundfunk, LRF), based in Schaan, is the principality’s public broadcaster. It has operated a single radio channel, Radio Liechtenstein (Radio L). Radio L first aired nationwide in 1938–1939, returned under private ownership in 1995, and became a public radio service again in January 2004. According to the station, its audience included listeners in Liechtenstein as well as neighbouring parts of Switzerland and Austria. A decisive development followed an initiative launched in 2024: on 27 October 2024 voters approved repealing the law that guaranteed the broadcaster’s public funding, with the law set to lapse on 31 December 2025. After the government concluded privatization was not feasible and no extension of funding could be agreed, Radio Liechtenstein ceased broadcasting on 3 April 2025.
