The Extremadura Audiovisual Media Corporation (CEXMA) is the public broadcaster in the Extremadura region. It operates a television and a radio channel out of Merida.

Ownership and governance
CEXMA was established as a public corporation by Law No. 3 of 2008, owned by the Extremadura region.
The highest governing body at CEXMA is the Board of Directors, which consists of nine members appointed by the regional parliament in Extremadura. The company’s Director General is also appointed by the Extremadura Parliament based on a recommendation from the regional government.
Source of funding and budget
CEXMA is predominantly funded by the regional government of Extremadura. According to the group’s annual report, in 2022, it had a budget of €27.6m, with the government subsidy accounting for almost all of it.
In 2023, the company had a budget of €26.5m, and the projected budget for 2024 was €28.9m, according to information provided by the broadcaster.
Editorial independence
There is no evidence of systematic editorial control by the government at CEXMA.

CEXMA has an Advisory Council comprising 17 members appointed by the government of the region of Extremadura. These members are selected based on proposals from government, trade unions, private enterprises, consumer groups, academic institutions, and other organizations. The main role of the Advisory Council is to provide feedback on the broadcaster’s programming to the CEXMA Board of Directors at least twice a year.
