Inforpress known in Portuguese as Inforpress – Agência Cabo-verdiana de Notícias is the official news agency in Cape Verde. The agency was established in 1988 as Cabopres and was rebranded to its current name ten years later.

Ownership and governance

The Cape Verdean News Agency, Cabopress, was formally created in 1984 through Decree-Law No. 136/84. Its activities were launched in 1988. The government, which is the agency’s owner, appoints the head of the agency.


Source of funding and budget

There is no publicly available information about Inforpress’s funding model. However, according to two journalists interviewed for this report in May 2024, the agency relies on a state subsidy to operate.


Editorial independence

Inforpress’ editorial agenda is closely following the government, which its coverage prioritizes. Criticism of the authorities is not tolerated at the agency.
